The “Rise of China” and the “China Threat”: How Come the American Image? Zhu Feng(33) Recently, the theme of “China Threat” is growing in the United States. It is not only a matter of ideological bias or the result of a lack of understanding of the Chinarelated issues among the majority of Americans. It is also an inevitable response of the United States to the “rise of China” . The “rise of China” and the subsequent image of China being a threat' are not only related to the unique position of the United States in the current international system, but also closely linked to traditional American policy toward China, motivated by its “value, interest, and politics.” Such an image is related less to the American ideological factor and more to the position of the United States in the international power structure.
