The Employment of Power and the Maintenance of U.S. Hegemony, with a Discussion of the Transformation of U.S. Foreign Policy of the Obama Administration (Liu Huijun) In order to safeguard the primacy of the United States in the world, U.S. scholars have proposed various grand strategies. The basic theme of these grand strategies is to seek to use appropriate means to maintain U.S. hegemonic status in the world. The Obama administration makes a change in U.S. foreign strategy. To the Islamic world, the Obama administration tries to find a more appropriate solution to the IsraeliPalestinian problem. It accepts offshore balancing strategy for military withdrawal from Iraq; adopts a more selective intervention strategy to have more power to deal with terrorism and issues in Afghanistan. As the new American National Security Strategy Report shows, the Obama administration endeavors to limit the use of American power to safeguard the supremacy of the United States.
